I'm terrible with computers and I just wanted to know how to get pictures for avatars.

This really ought to go in Site Issues. Wink

It's pretty simple, though there are quite a few steps. First, find the image you want to use. If you are on a Windows-based PC, you can hover over the image to see the pixels. It must be no larger than 80 pixels high and/or 120 wide. If it is not, you can use a program called IrfanView to resize the image. It can be downloaded for free from The next step is to upload the image to a photo hosting site, like or

To Resize:
1) Open IrfanView.
2) Click "File" then "Open"
3) Find the image you want to use and open it.
4) Hit the Ctrl button and the R button at the same time. (Ctrl+R)
5) On the left side, there should be a checked box saying "Preserve Aspect Ratio." If it is not checked, do so.
6) Above that is a box that says "Set new size." Decide which side of the image is shortest and set that to the respective avatar limit
-- If the image is 380 high x 348 wide, change the height to 80. The width will change automatically to 87.
7) Click okay.
Cool Save the image as a new .JPG file in order to preserve the original image.

To Upload the Image using Photobucket:
1) Go to and sign up for a new account, or log into your current account.
2) Decide which album you will save the image in, or use the default album.
3) Click browse, find the image, and open it.
4) Click upload.
5) When the image is uploaded, you will see a thumbnail. Under this thumbnail are several boxes with URLs. Select the box that says "Direct Link". The URL is now copied. (No Ctrl+C necessary.)
6) Come back to AoA and edit your profile.
7) Paste the URL in the appropriate box ("Link to Off-site Avatar").
Cool Click Submit. Go back to edit your profile to ensure that it worked properly.

That should do it.
