Great vid! Get ready to be swamped with eggs/babies! Maybe they really liked me or something, but I found them by far the most prolific killifish I've ever raised. They were cranking out 100+ eggs a week, no joke. The babies are really cute and not that hard to raise.

Thanks, I hope they do OK since they are in the 75 gal. That is the only thing in there right now, since I lost most of my fish to 7 days of no power.

Great video susan. best of luck with raising any fry that they put out for you.

That power outage wreaked havoc with fishkeepers livestock in oklahoma. Good to see that your plants are doing great, I lost a large majority of mine.

where do they originate from?
If they are from an area that experiences a "cold" season or a rainy season (where there is a temp drop, preceeded by a rise), where they spawn afterwards, then you may have found a breeding trigger.

I only lost plants from one tank as the other was in a bit of sunlight, unfortunately the one that was in sunlight only have a few anubias nana plantlets in it while the other was a fully planted tank.

They originate from the southern coasts, around Florida, Alabama and such.

I have 7 tanks planted with a lot of swords, stem plants and such. I lost a lot, but my tanks were always heavily planted so most people don't realize the plant loss that I had. There is one that is still heavily planted but its mainly ricca, babytears and naja grass, Lost the shrimp in the tank but not the plants.

wow...sorry to hear about that!

Flags are pretty tough, I think they can take temps down to 50 degrees but no further. So they are unable to winter outside where I live.

I found they started breeding like crazy for me when I stuck them in a sweaterbox type container packed with plants on the patio. They were kept cool all year and then they get temps somewhere around 80 durign the day. Fed em a lot of crushed peas and blackworms too.

Good luck with them Susan! Native American fish have always interested me, although I can't imagine there would be too many in Scotland.

I also don't have the room for them, which is a bummer. I'm always up for unusual fish.

Before the ice storm and power outage I had 11 flag fish. The tank got down to the low 30's near the end of it all but still had 4 that survived. Lost 2 out of 12 Nicholsi, lost all of the other killies but 1 pair. over 400 endlers, 4 young females survived. And my stock of bristlenose. There was over 225 young ones 3 pairs of adults, and 6 new longfins. All in all I lost over $3000 in fish. But the bright side, I will be getting my breeding stock back up by the end of January.
