Like the subject says, I need a new protein skimmer for my 75 gallon. I'm not sure what kind I just had now that broke after 6 years, but I liked it a lot. It was one of those backpack skimmers. Can anybody recommend a brand like that?

The Deltec MCE-600 skimmer is considered pretty top-of-the-line. Expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Do you have a sump or are you stuck with HOB? _________________ Out on the road today...I saw a DeadHead sticker on a Cadillac...

The AquaC while a good skimmer would be maxed out on Mike's 75. I usually recommend them for smaller tanks with less bio-load. The Deltec is currently the most efficient HOB skimmer out there. _________________ Out on the road today...I saw a DeadHead sticker on a Cadillac...

Alright I'm going tomorrow to buy this thing because it was a national holiday here in Montreal today. My only questions now are: How cloudy will the tank get when I get the skimmer started? How long will it take for the cloudiness to go away? How will the cloud affect my livestock?

The tank should not get cloudy at all? The skimmer isn't introducing anything to the tank other than oxygenated water. When you get the skimmer clean it out with vinegar and hot water as plastics have an oily film on the that make the break in time longer. Do not use soap, just hot water and vinegar. This is also a good time to get acquainted with the workings and parts of the skimmer. Check the venturi for obstructions and the pumps impellor for damage.
You should see some good skim in a few days to a few weeks. _________________ Out on the road today...I saw a DeadHead sticker on a Cadillac...
