I wanted to separate the contest photos into two categories - those fish that are camouflaged and those that are hiding - and have two mini-contests!
(But, of course, I didn't. Wink)

1.) #03 - HeatherK. Excellent, in-focus photo. The mottled, purple structure in the middle seems to be the subject of the picture at first, which is what makes this photo fit the theme so well. Perfect camouflage on the "scorpionfish."
2.) #05 - underOATH. This is a big impact photo for me. That cichlid looks like he is desperate! Talk about hiding! I feel his fright.
3.)#25 - Ambell. A wonderful shot. Good focus and composition, and a good capture of a reclusive fish. Nice!

Also loved these pics:
#30 - Minsc. I always like photos by this poster. The way the watery green world of the aquarium is captured is so natural and perfect.
#07 - sirreal. A great shot of a difficult to capture fish. I appreciate that.

Wow! There are some really great photos this month. It's very hard to decide, but here are my choices:

First: #28 Beowulf

Second: #3 Heather K

Third: #9 Petorama

All three of these (and many of the others) fit the theme perfectly and are wonderfully composed. Great quality shots, too.

First #03. Heather K
Second #17. Misprint
Third #28. beowulf

I found these photos best fit this months theme.

I also really liked #19. Dusko, #07. sirreal63 and #21. Marcos Avila. Really hard choice this month; great photos everyone!

Overall I think this may have been the most interesting contest to date. From the theme to the wildly differing choices in voting this has been a treat. I tried to make my choices using a balance of composition, quality of photo, and adherence to theme.

1st Place - #3 Heather K

2nd Place - #28 beowulf

3rd Place - #17. Misprint

There were a half dozen others I considered and the gap between 1st and 10th was very small. Excellent work by all those that submitted.

#11. deborah_claro - nicely focused on the cory in his hideout.

#05. underOATH87 - technically good (and reminds me of a dog I used to have that hid whenever she went number 2's - unfortunately she seemed to think if she couldn't see us then we couldn't see her and would place herself behind thin trees or fence posts. Laughing )

#20. lindak - this would have been my winner had the photo been cropped judiciously. It is the fish's reflection that leads the eye to it.

Some of the photos didn't quite fit the theme.

Good job everyone Wink

Regards, Dusko.

My votes:

1) #17. Misprint - what a completely unexpected color match!

2) #19. Dusko - that little crab looks like he's almost teasing you.

3) #05. underOATH87 - great technical quality and very interesting, dynamic composition.

Honorable mentions to the SW photos in the contest...very interesting critters!

Hi Y'all.
#1 - 5 underoath87 - the expression on his face is like he just got caught doing something he shouldn't have been doing!

#2 - 17 misprint - I really like the way the cories back blends in with the decoration, great shot!

#3 - 19 Dusko - I think the crab is hilarious, I love crabs they're so unique and alien looking. He seems like he's(??) playing hide and seek. Of course the lighting and clarity of the shot are perfect. I like the way the light starts on his claws/hands/gripping appendages and turns into shadow towards his head. Beautiful!!

Congrats and good luck to everyone, good subject matter Marcos.
