My first competition entry.
Odd man CAE eating with cories. You can hardly tell the difference, their eyes are so similar.

An evolutionary metaphor:

Separated by 5,000 years of selective breeding, this 30 cm fancy goldfish swims against the current of his wild Carassius auratus cousins Wink

These little catfish are only 2.5 cm long,
but an even smaller Endler's livebearer is hoping to get in on the potato action.

Corydoras habrosus, Poecilia wingei, and a piece of cooked white potato.

Submissions closed! We have 15 submissions in what was already expected to be a thougher theme. Let's move on to the 1 week voting phase! All board members can vote, but remember...to make a valid vote you must choose your 3 favorite candidates from the selection below and clearly list them in order of preference!

Although the selection criteria are ultimately personal, we hope that each voter will take into consideration the 3 basic elements of good photography:
adequacy to the proposed theme, attentive composition and technical quality.

We also encourage everyone to add comments justifying your choices, and including praises or constructive criticism to those that weren't chosen.

Participants cannot vote for their own photo, but are expected to vote and add comments for the "other" good photos! All in the name of friendship and fun!

Voting Deadline: May 31st (Thursday)

Here's my votes. It was very hard to choose between them all!

1. #12 Marcos: Love how the goldfish is in bewtween the all the black ones. Colours are a very nice contrast.

2. #6 Munkee: Crabs really stands out on the rock, especially with anemone (correct me if I'm wrong Embarassed ).

3. #15 Deborah: Love how the Cories are eating and how the Endler is snooping around. ^_^

Good luck to all, very good contest again!

Blair

1) #12 Graceful contrast.
2) #6 A beautiful photo, clear and sharp.
3) #10 The oto almost gets away with blending in!

P.S. I don't even remember switching my photo out to the platies and betta photo from the platies and shrimp one... I really need to stop posting at 2 in the morning...

Darn, I missed getting my entry in...

My choices:
First: #5-Great photo...tough choice...chose because of the cuteness of the child (I'm a mom)in the background and contrast in color of the tank against the black and white (septa?)of the photo. Good Luck!

Second: #11-Such a tough choice between this and #5...Great Grouping, I like that all (well almost all) were facing the same why. Great photo. Good Luck!

Third: #8-kinda bland color wise, but it works great in the photo. Great Job. Good Luck!

For those that I did not chose. I am not a professional photographer (far from in my opinion), but I tend to be very anal when it comes to my photos (including any taken of me or my kids...any that I purchase), so here it goes...

This is my opinion of your photos:
#1-I am very anal about my subject being in focus. This photo was not in focus at all that I can tell. It is also very colorless...the black skirt tetra should have stood out (I think)...good luck.

#2-Great color, but again, your subjects are not in focus...I think it would have made it in my top 3 if it had been...good job other than that...good luck.

#3-The white rocks and blue/green plant just don't do it for me. Not enough color for my taste...good luck.

#4-Interesting...Great photo...seems the camera focused on the rock instead of the fish. I would have liked it had the striped fish (SAE? Flying fox?) been in focus...the "movement" of the other fish makes for a good photo...good luck.

#6-Beautiful photo...looks professional...wanted to give the "little guy" a chance Wink good luck.

#7-Interesting angle...had the Betta been any other direction, I would have liked it better. You did get the "odd man out" angle...good luck.

#9-Good Job, good color combo...just not to my taste...good luck.

#10-Great focus, just not enough color for my taste...good luck.

#12-Good Job of "odd man out"...you hit the nail on the head! Not only is the GF totally different (body style, color etc.), but going the wrong direction entirely!...just not my taste...good luck.

#13-To me it looks over exposed. Other than that, good photo...good luck.

#14-Very well focused, beautiful fish, just not enough color for me...good luck.

#15-Good Photo...the potato is just so WHITE that it takes over the photo and becomes the focal point of the photo. Great photo in my opinion...good luck.

All of these are just my opinion, and I hope I did not offend anyone...that was not my intension. My intension was to be constructive, not offensive. I do wish everyone the best of luck.
