Heres my first entry of the year, a picture of just the light on in my 40L nano tank in the room.

Pic taken with Sony W-50.

Good luck to everyone else who enters.

Alright, let's move on to the 1 week voting phase now. We have an impressive 34 submissions in this contest! All board members can vote, but remember...to make a valid vote you must choose your 3 favorite candidates from the selection below and clearly list them in order of preference!

Although the selection criteria are ultimately personal, we hope that each voter will take into consideration the 3 basic elements of good photography:
adequacy to the proposed theme, attentive composition and technical quality.

We also encourage everyone to add comments justifying your choices, and including praises or constructive criticism to those that weren't chosen.

Participants cannot vote for their own photo, but are expected to vote and add comments for the "other" good photos! All in the name of friendship and fun!

Voting Deadline: April 30th (Monday)

My votes-

1st- #24. Dusko-
Fits the theme well and a good quality shot. It also seems quite "moody".

2nd- #05. munkee-
Fits the theme well. I liked this photo since I first saw it. Nice work!

I had the most trouble choosing 3rd place.

3rd- #12. Michael L.-
Once again, fits the theme well. But what I most liked about this shot was the bright red shrimp and the contrast it made with the plant and wood.

Other of my "top shots" include Psyfalcon, tolkien, deborah_claro, conaquavict, lindak, aberdufi and Osprey. But then again, I liked pretty much all of them.

1) #01. shaun64326 - this is real photography. A unique, outstanding composition which captured the theme way beyond any expectations I had when I proposed it.

2) #18. tolkien - another brilliant composition taking full advantage of the proposed theme.

3) #17. lindak - not particularly technical, but there's a lovely, feel-good story told in the image that made me vote for it Wink

A few other entries that really stood out for me:

- #13. aberdufi - the "inner light" effect on that ghost shrimp is fantastic! I would've cropped the image a bit, the upper 3rd of the photo doesn't add much to the composition.

- #24. Dusko - I have tried many times, and failed, to capture fish under such low lighting. Please teach me how to do it later Wink

- #28. J.B. - That little neon lurking in the dark corner looks EVIL Twisted Evil

- #29. Magnus - Glad to see another example of your great shots with low depth of field!

- #31. AndyLH88 - Creative and artsy! Smile I love how a simple stool became a character and focal point in your composition.

Congrats to everyone for another very enjoyable selection!
