Does anyone know how to build a sump for a 110 gallon aquarium? Would it be possible to build one out of a 10 gallon tank to sit in the aquarium stand?

Use at least a 20 gallon tank and baffle it.

Lots of reading here...

Thanks for the site. I have another question, by having a sump running inside of an enclosed aquarium stand, wouldnt the water evaporating from the sump cause the wood in the aquarium stand to rot and eventually lead to a tragic end?

No, there would not be enough evaporation for that to happen.
