I'm in the middle of buying a bigger aquarium (either 5 or 6 foot long). So I have decided to start a journal for the development of my tank

To start things off here are the first pics

Now before u throw words in let me just say

*the heater is getting moved into the living room

*the bed is never used

*the art work will be tanked down & moved to a new room

*the tank will be placed here. I have measured it & it won't even touch the painting

a few of the future tank mates have been living in my 20 gallon for a month. they include

1 yoyo loach
1 angelfish (3 cm long)
3 khulis
1 Bristlenose

they will be moved when the cycling is done

I should be getting the tank in the next week or so

after I get the tank ill be adding a rock background to it

some black gravel

& some plants (still deciding)

still haven't figured out my stock yet

I was thinking 6 Congo tetras but I'm not sure if an a young angel fish would like company with some Congo tetras

feb 23rd

Mum and I went out to a local aquarium warehouse

we had a look around at 4 foot tanks or 5 foot tanks

we saw a 4 ft tank package for $1000 that includes everything

I fixed my eyes on this

We decided to snap this offer up (+ I had a 10% coupon).

the package includes:

4 ft tank

unpolished stand & hood

filter

gravel (I don't really like the gravel cause its too much grainy so ill have to buy some proper stuff)

Backing paper

I was thinking about getting a rock wall. they didn't have any but they called up a distributor & asked for price & size. a 4 foot rocky wall would cost me $400 so I decided to forget about it.

the package didn't come with a heater or a light so we got them today.

tank package$350.00
Reflector $74.95
globe $25.95
Heater $45.00
- 10%

Total: 446.40

the tank arrives on Monday night . When it arrives we will give the stand & hood a polishing & varnish

after tuesday ill be doing some buying & aquascape

Probably won't be filling the tank untill the end of next week

when the tank is full and planted I might do a Silent Cycling in a Planted Aquarium

I spent the whole day in town looking for aquarium supplies

I went to my LFS & the owner recognized me straight away. I told him that I just got a 4 ft tank from another LFS. He told me that he saw my new fish tank the other day.

Since I have been a loyal customer he gave me a 10% discount for life.
so I got :

A thermometer ( a floating)
some stress coat
a nitrate test kit

I then went to another lfs & brought some plant food tablets

I finished the day off with 4 bunches of Banana lilly (temp in my 2 ft tank)

4 banana lilies

Mum just got the varnish & polish, so we will be doing it this Monday night or Tuesday

Gorgeous tank. :D I hope to get something that looks like that someday. I really like the hood on that one, very spiffy. :3 Keep updating, this is a great thread -- can't wait to see how you decorate and stock it!

You should DIY a rocky background. You can do it for less than $70 if you do it right.

Good Luck!

Great and BIG tank Surprised ..
I suggest you forget about the rock wall for now, and save the money for the real stuff; substrate, plants, wood/rocks, fish, ferts... and so on.
Keep the updates coming!

Cheers!
