After putting it off, I finally decided to change out the gravel in my 48 gallon. The mix of white sand and red flourite just wasn't looking so hot.

I'd also somewhat neglected pruning and the plants had taken over the tank!

Here's a before shot:

Dunno if I'm going to keep everything that's in there right now. I'll let things grow in a bit and see where I go from there.

WOW, HUGE DIFFERENCE. I would say that the plants got a little out of hand compared to the new tank. I would have got lost in there.

It's a mix of Geosystems black river sand (with Eco-complete underneath). I suppose it could be the same stuff, just different name.
