I will have a 29g tank (in a few weeks when it finishes cycling) and have seen Gourami's and just love them.

Any thoughts on care, tank mates, number of gourami in a tank this size, best one to get (pearl, dwarf, 3-spot)?

I love gouramis! I would recomend pearl gouramies, dwarf gouramies, or thick-lipped gouramies (which I have right now). These species are friendly, and can go with pretty much anything.

I have mine in a 48-gal planted community with tetras (neons and glass bloodfins), rasboras (harlequins and brilliand rasboras), some guppies, a pair of rams, cories (schwarzies, or however you spell that Laughing), and a few otos. Everyone seems to leave each other alone.

Good luck!

EDIT: I forgot my Pristella tetras Embarassed .... yeah, I have Pristella as well.

I have two pearl gouramis in my 10 gallon, but they are going to the 55 when its setup..along with two others..

they grow to around 4", but most of their body is just a big fin..their actual organs are very small, so they are essentially a 2" fish..haha

you could probably get 3 in a 29g depending on the other fish, but maybe just two..

be sure not to get multiple males..they will fight much like bettas...the males typically have pointy fins, females have more round fins..

good luck, they are beautiful fish Smile

10g with aquaclear mini:
2 pearl gouramis [going to 75]
1 sunset platy
1 yoyo loach [going to 75]

gouramis are my favourite fish,I have a number of different breeds.they all get along fine, EXCEPT my gold gourami. He's a bit of a bully chasing the others around although it never gets violent and as soon as I turn on my airstones he forgets the other fish and plays in the bubbles. So a mix of most gouramis should be fine (aswell as very attractive) just beware of gold 1s Very Happy
