I'm trying once again for success with plants. Today I got my dual strip light, 30 Watts, put it over my 35 hexagon, 16 gal. bowfront and the fish in both tanks hid. They hate the extra light. I have a 29 long but the glass isn't long enough to hold the light strip. Also a ten gallon I can use but I'd rather use one of the existing tanks.
All tanks have silk and plastic plants so there are hiding places for the fish. What's up with the fish?

It's not the amount of light that is causing the problems. It's most likely the change in light or you hovering over the tank to make sure the fish are OK.

Change in light. Will they get over that? I'm always hoovering over the tanks so that isn't it, they greet me thinking they are getting fed. Also, may I ask, I've got sand in my 16 gal bowfront, for the catfish. When my ecosubstrate arrives can I pour it on top of the sand or should I take the sand out and use only ecosubstrate? Thank you in advance. I've got your guide bookmarked. Very witty.

The fish will get used to it.

I would remove the sand.

Okay! The plants and dirt arrived while I was swimming. I will remove the sand.
I'm excited. Thanks.
