today I discovered ich on 2 of my corries, 3 neon tetras and a serpae tetra. I have ich medicine but, 1 problem, I have very valuable inverts in the tank(vampire shrimp, cherries, clams, ect.) and theres no way I could get them all out. if I raise the temp, could I use medicines w/copper and then put back in my carbon filters to cancel out most of it and kill the ick while leaving my inverts with little damage? any other methods would be apreciated. _________________ Trying to spawn Barbs and Clowns

If you put a copper med in your tank, you won't be able to keep inverts in there again...
Go with salt and heat. Add an extra airstone/bubbler and begin the process with a big water change and gravel vac. There is a good article on treating ich with heat and salt in the "Article" section here

If the ick seems very severe and the fish don't respond to heat treatment, the other option is to move all your fish into your hospital tank (I checked your profile, so I know you have one ) and treat them there. The display tank will have to be empty of fish for a month to kill off the cysts living in the gravel, but there would be zero risk for your inverts, and you would still be able to use more aggressive meds. The heat method has worked for me in the past, however, and it may work well for you. Don't jump to the harsher meds until you've given heat treatment a try. _________________ Am I obsessed? | Another testimonial for the heat/dark treatment. It works! Hope you don't lose any fish. Keep us updated. |
