my java fern looked nice when I got it. it produced 3 little baby plant things and I removed them. now there are 16 and my fern looks like $#!^. I see jave fern matts or big grouping of full grown plants. whats wrong with mine?

nothing whats the problem your getting free plants!! if you reaaly don't like them why not try trimming them like you would normal plats?

dying? I don't know whats going on with the reply from spotto, but to answer the original question, from what you described nothing is wrong with your java fern. this is normal.

Splotto might have been refering to when a java fern leaf is on its way out. They will usually throw out a bunch of baby plants as a last ditch effort for survival of the species. Though I don't know if it's quite that dramatic. Laughing

ohhh OK, yes youre right the leaves do seem to "die out" when it creates a new plant... but in my experience I do recall a few leaves that did not die and leave new baby plants.

Yeah, I guess it doesn't happen all the time. I just remember reading that somewhere and thought that was what splotto was trying to describe.
