My tank finished cycling this week and I went out to the LFS tonight and began building my community tank.

I started off by buying 6 Glowlight Tetras and 6 Gold Neon Tetras.

I acclimated them to their new home for 20 mins and then released them. After a couple of hours I dropped some flake food into the water and they all went crazy!! I was very happy that they were so active.

The problem however is that I counted fish as they were eating and one of my gold neons was hiding out behind my amazon sword. He snuck a few flakes in but he wasn't mingling with the other tetras. He just seems to be depressed and a loner with the sword as his only company... Sad

He does look smaller/younger and not as bright colored or active. Could he be sick? Is there something I should be looking for that is common in tetras?

Thanks for any info or ideas as to what might be plaguing him. I hope the little guy is just nervous in his new home...

My water conditions are:

Ammonia = 0 ppm
Nitrites = 0 ppm
Nitrates = 20 ppm
pH = 7.0
KH = 50 ppm
GH = 100 ppm
Temp = 26.5 deg/C

It's a planted 55 gallon...

Yeah I think you're right. This morning when I went to feed them he was out swimming around with the other guys.

Whew...I was a little nervous there for a moment beacuse the rest of them seemed to be so active.

Guess I'm just overreacting...oh well...chalk it up to being a newbie....

your not supposed to feed them the day they are getting introduced to there new home but its not life threatening or anything
your also supposed to get maybe about 6 fish a week so you don't have an ammonia spike and they all die. I know its sooo hard to wait though! I'm sure they are just nervous. as long as they have some cover they should get over it!
