Hi, I'm new here and enjoying the site, lots of great info. Very Happy I've only be keeping a 30 gallon reef tank for about 2 1/2 years with reasonable success (my soft corals are over growing the tank). Shocked And it only has a hang on filter, protein skimmer and chiller. So now I'm starting up a 75 gallon tank and using a wet/dry filter and an overflow tank. I have a 700gph pump for the water return and it seems to be just about right. I'm OK with a power failure and understand the issues due to the loss of the pump. But I haven't seen anybody address the issues of a problem with the overflow/supply side of the system. Confused Lets just assume a snail gets caught in the overflow intake and clogs up the system, or my cat plays with the U-tube and breaks the syphon. Water supply to the filter is reduced to 90% by the snail, or zero by the cat. Now my new pump is running almost dry... that can't be good? How do I avoid this situation?
