I just set up a 2-5 gallon tank to breed snails in because my malabar puffer is a hog. I was wondering if they need anything special aside from lettuce so they will breed, and how long it normaly takes.

to provide your puffer with a bit of a chalenge, feed them calsium tablets for a nice thick shell.

OK sweet, should I bother using my extra heater in their little house and do I need a filter/filtered water?

Oh yeah, can I just use something like rolaids for the calcium tablets or do I need to get some from the lfs?

the rolaids will work and yes, you should use the heater. filtered water is a good idea as it will be a better setup and will promote the snails to breed.

Will citracal work? Ingredients are: calcium citrate, polyethylene glycol, croscarmellose sodium, hydroxypropl methycellulose, color added, magnesium silicate, magnesium stearate.

um, the only thing I know of in there is calcium so try them out. if you can get your hands on rolaids as I know they don't harm anything.
