I purchased this fish last Friday from a LFS in Mission Kansas. It was labled a Flying Fox, I think it might be a Siamese Algae Eater. But not for sure. I have read a lot on this topic and I have my own opinions. I just wanted to open this up to the rest of you guys and gals. The fish is currently in a 10 gallon "quarantine tank" If he truly is a SAE he will be going to a heavily planted 29 gallon. If not I have a 5 day warranty for him. (I could take him back). Let me know what you think! There are about 10 pics please be patient. He is between 2 and 3 inches in length.
Thanks in advance!

My money is on 'true' SAE.
There are several other recent posts on SAE or not that you can look up for more details on telling the difference. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

| He seems to be pretty calm in the "quarantine tank" the only other fish in their with him is an African Butterfly Fish who is a permanent resident. I have tiny fish in my 29 gallon main tank, and I am afraid he would eat them. The "SAE" doesn't appear to try and swim against the current. Will be interesting to see how he reacts in the 29 gallon in about a week. Do SAE ever lose their taste for algae if they get to much processed food, such as algae wafers or flakes? |

I pretty sure yours is a "true" SAE. This is a pic of mine, and they look pretty much the same.
I've had mine for a while, and they still love eating algae, even with the other foods they get. |

| Excellent, I just want to be sure before putting into my main tank. Course it is undergoing a blackout because of green water. Ugh! Saving up for a HOT magnum filter. I hear the micron filter works great! |

I have 5 SAE's and love them to bits!
They largest one is now over 3 inches and still eats algae as if he is being paid to do so.
Your pic does look like and SAE. Put him in the big tank and watch him solve your algae problem. |
