Not a stupid question at all.
I used electricians zip ties to wire the rock to the eggcrate. In the right mound shot you can see one to the left of the brown macro algae (one of the few I couldn't hide right away). Over time they get covered with coraline algae or coral frags.

looking good dale! lots of soft stuff in there though! new lighting and more flow and get some sps in there I say Very Happy

have you considered modding the maxijets to allow more flow and a more disperse flow. imo the softies would love it!

I didn't know my joking suggestion(your tank looks quite nice, tanks don't need sps to look nice) included trading your tank in for a very small nano reef and then having a few annoying disasters after your tank had reached its prime....
