I have a clownfish and 3 hermit crabs and am looking for some sort of intereting invertebrate to add to the tank. Any suggestions.

A coral banded (or boxing) shrimp is a nice little invert, one of my personal favorites. Also, nano-reefs can be beautiful, so some easy mushroom or xenia corals are a good consideration if the system has been running long enough. Oh, tuxedo urchins are also a nice choice. What do you have in it already?

I have one clownfish, 3 hermit crabs, and 5lbs of live rock, also several very small snails that were on the live rock. I'm not going to put coral on it because in the summer I am going away for 10 weeks with the military and my mother asked me not to get anything to hard for her or my brother to take care. So I do need something a beginner can take care of.

I agree, a shrimp would be a good choice, consider the Scarlet Cleaner:
