Wow that's a pretty tough fish you got there!
I once had a gourami woh got tangled up in some thread that he pulled of a javefern/bogwood. Looked like he'd been slashed to bits but he's now the biggest gourami I have! He healed is about 2 weeks.
I'm always amazed how quickly a fish will grow back its fins. They seem to be gone one day and within a week they are grown back almost.
Good luck to your plec! |

DANG! I thought for sure that mac was going to be dead by the end of the story! | You sound slightly disappointed, jtg! I hope you didn't have a bet on it .
On another forum, Lord SteveO wrote: | Quote: | | ... more than anything it find it brilliant fun to be able to create a full minature ecosystem in you own house, no mater what size your tanks are. | So do I. This just about sums up my approach to fishkeeping, exactly, and what I aim for in every set-up. I think it does them a world of good to be in a set-up geared to their specific needs, and it helps them through disasters like this one.

If I get any brilliant photos of the ventral area, I can post those to the topic there. Thanks.

Success at last!
On or about October 23, I was prowling around downstairs
very early in the morning, and I happened to spy this:
The gash has obviously healed over with no side effects!
I never see him on the glass during the day, and didn't really know all of his nighttime habits, but he must like to explore the glass once in a while. Luckily, the early light from the window allowed me to see him there.
He dashed off just after the shot was taken.
He looks good, doesn't he?
I am sure he is bragging about how brave he was, and showing off his scar to all the other catfish!
Okay, at haname's suggestion, here's a recap for the archive ...
Here he is on the day of the injury, around August 10, 2006:
He was definitely looking his worst on that day.
(No flash; better color, but not very sharp.)
And here he is today, around three months later:
(With flash; image is crisper, but color is washed out.)
The pictures tell the story!
I have enjoyed and appreciated everyone's comments; they're like little get-well-soon cards.
EDIT: to add photos. _________________
