Once again I noticed something in my reef tank I haven't seen before.

It's this blue-gray stuff that looks kinda like it's encrusting the rock (much like coralline). It's not a smooth as coralline, either. Rather, it's slightly bumpy and at the top of each "bump" is a tiny hole.

It's pretty small (overall maybe a 1 cm in diameter with each "bump" being about 1 mm across). Unfortunately, I couldn't take an effective picture of it given its small size.

If it is soft it is a sponge. Is it encrusting on a pineapple? Laughing

I think you're right, it's likely some kind of sponge. Not sure if it's soft because I can't really reach it, but it looks kinda like some sponge pics I've looked up.

They are normal and mostly safe, my tanks are loaded with them.

Did you happen to see if it had square pants?

LOL!!! I browse this forum from work and you almost made me spit coffee on my monitor because I laughed so hard when I read that Smile

Also, thanks Pete for asking that question because I have some things that look like that too so now we both know what they are.

Sorry...it was there and if you don't take them when there are there, they will never be there again. Very Happy

The diversity of life that comes out of nowhere in our tanks is amazing. I have a pc of rock that I moved to the temp tank, after being in my system for 2+ years and it now has a macro algae I have never seen before popping out. You would think that nothing could remain dormant for over 2 years.

It is no ownder I got bored with freshwater. Cool
