ALright guys work with me here, I am an expiernced freshwater aquarist I have been taking my time doing a little research here and there on reef tanks, to my understanding it is the initial setup and cycling that is a pain, after that a 55 gal reef sustains itself pretty well.

Anyway do you guys see any compatibility problems here.

1 lawnmower blenny
1 yellow tang
2 yellow tail damsel
1 firefish

I know I have a lot more research to do, I have my tank. I am fixing to have to drop some cash I am gonna need lighting, skimmer live sand and rock next. I am gonna take my uber time in order to do this right this first time.

I think your list looks pretty good, some will argue the Yellow Tang needs a larger system as it grows so you might swap that out with a Clownfish.

As for the reef system sustaining itself; be advised a lot of the reef systems will require a pretty high maintenance schedule... some of that can be eased with automated dosers and such, but they are far from "set it and forget it!" Make sure you include a cover, the Firefish are fond of carpet surfing. Your research will lead to... success!

Personally I would skip any Tang in a 55, the length is fine for a Yellow but that 12" width is the problem, not enough swimming and hiding places. The rest looks fine. I would caution you that no reef is self sustaining or easy, it is the hardest type of system to set up and one that requires a lot of time, patience and money and mostly tons of research. Feel free to ask questions, we are here to help.

Thanks for the help guys, I actually now have a 79 gal tank so I guess I can keep that tang.
