I wouldent recomend useing a stang on a 5 gal unless its only a base (a small stand for small tanks about 1-6 inches high for looks) or if u r going to over size it because if the stand is the lengh and with of a 5 gal and its like 2-3 feet high its probly going to get tiped over at some point.

A stand can never be too small. A tank to be able to fit on a stand can be too small. Basically the best choice to go with is to esceed the length by about 4 inches or 5 inches and then to exceed the width by one or two inches. A lengther tank loks very good on a small tank that is well taken care of and planted. There are many ways of designing a stand for a 5 gallon. It would be very cheap to build a stand for such a small size, but its possible. Before I say anythng else, may I ask you , what are the dimensions of the tank?

Although I understand what you are saying Ciklido J.R., I have to say I think that a small aquarium would look perfect on a tall stand.

The difference in size gives great size-depth contrast to a room. To overcome the awkwardness of the stand, I would recommend starting with a larger base and tapering it in towards the top where the tank will rest.

This is not a very good illustration, but maybe it will spark some ideas for you flyerfan. A stand such as this would not be very difficult to make and I'm sure you would enjoy the process.

Let me know if you have any questions or need help and good luck!
