1) Put a pile of gravel in your tank
2) Put the driftwood in the pile
3) & Finally, cover the driftwood in some gravel

(Thats how I got mine to stay)

1) Put driftwood in tank

2a) Put rock on driftwood (or)
2b) Tie rock to driftwood with some sort of string (& bury string under gravel)

Hope that helps!

Good tips JayJay,

In addition to the above,

C. If you find a piece of wood somewhere that you like (e.g. on the beach or lake shore)

1) Find a relatively flat rock that's large enough to hold it down (just estimate by eye and if later it's not enough weight, unscrew it and get a bigger rock),
2) Use a masonry drill bit large enough for the screw to fit through easily and drill the hole through the rock (Remember, you're not screwing into the rock itself and if possible, clamp the rock down before drilling),
3) Turn drift wood upside down and place rock where you want it to hold the wood down at,
4) Insert screw through the bottom of the rock and tighten into the wood.

Now, it's not going anywhere!
Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.
