By clicking on the 'Profile' link on the page top, registered users can access and configure their personal information on the board. Since many of the choices you make in there affect the board layout and functionality, the following rules apply:

Choose a short username (16 characters max). We prefer that you use your actual name (first and last) or some derivation of it, so if your name is something like Englebert Humperdink or Arnold Schwarzenegger, choose something shorter like Englebert H. or The Schwarz Man. The username should not contain URL elements like "www" or ".com", nor any weird characters like ^&?*# etc...these may interfere with the board's functionality. Spaces, periods, scores and underscores are fine. You can change your username at any time in the profile page, but frequent changes cause confusion and are not well regarded.

The Avatar is a small image that will be added below your name on each post, so people can easily identify you. You can choose a default Avatar by clicking on 'Show Gallery', or you can add a personalized Avatar by adding the URL of an off-site image. In this case, the following rules are STRICTLY enforced for the image:

1) maximum length 120 pixels;
2) maximum height 80 pixels;
3) maximum file size 20 KB;
4) no URL's in the Avatar;
5) DO NOT link to an image from another site without permission from its owner!

The Signature is what will appear at the end of each message you post, and where you can add more personal information about yourself, such as your full name, address, telephone, website name, website URL, and/or a short quote. Your signature must not be more than 5 lines long, including blank lines.

The Signature is NOT the place to advertise your site or anything else on the board. Adding your site name and URL is informational and perfectly fine, adding a line like "Click Here", "Check out my tank!", "Please visit my site", "New pics available!", "The Best <whatever>!" or other publicity/advertising jargon is not. The only proper place to make such ads on this board is the Ads and Links forum.

Some people prefer to use an off-site image in their signatures. In this case, the image must not be more than 60 pixels in height and 468 pixels in length, and you can then add only one more line of text in your sig. Obviously, publicity/advertising slogans aren't allowed on the image either, the text should show only the site/business name, URL, e-mail, location, phone number, etc.
