Where is a good place to buy low-maintenance aquarium plants? I figured out that Anubias, hygro and Java fern would work in my 10 gal aquarium with slightly alkaline water (8.0). PetCo, Petsmart and the independently owned pet shops in the area (Salt Lake City) don't carry these plants. I tried to order off an aqurium plant website , and was told that they aren't shipping plants right now. Where do you get your plants?

I bought some anubias and java fern on www.aquaticplantdepot.com. Some snail eggs did manage to hitch-hike on my plants, but it wasn't too bad. My plants are doing well, though.

Not that I support corporate groups like Petco. They have plants in tubes , dry and with gel on the roots. These guys are the healthiest plants I've ever bought. They are for Aquariums although they only have the scientific name on the box. I bought what appears to be Java fern and some grass that I don't recognize and they are growing great.

I bought some of those Petco plants in the clear tubes, but got home to find that the ones I bought were not true aquatic plants even though they were labled for aquariums. Although they would survive underwater for some time, they would not actually grow or thrive.

Guess that is why I need to research what I buy before I buy it.

I took them back and got some real aquatic plants out of the tanks.

FYI: "Aqua fern" is not a true aquatic plant, it is more suited to a terrarium.
