So that won't contribute significantly to the current in the tank, and make it more difficult for slow-moving goldfish? _________________ What actually constitutes a "home zoo"? Five fish tanks, three cats, 5 dogs, and a parrot? Will that do it? |

Well it depends on the size (turn over rate) and position (in the tank) of the powerhead. _________________ Years of fish keeping = Good advice |

So what size powerhead should I be looking for to use in conjunction with a 350 Magnum Pro filter on a 55 gallon tank?
And while I've read that goldfish uproot plants regularly, I've also read that they like them, and I'm contemplating stocking the tank at setup with a lot of elodea (which is goldfish friendly and cheap around here.) Since I need a new hood, should I be worried about providing them with extra light, or will they do okay in low light? (Or does that question belong in the plant forum?) _________________ What actually constitutes a "home zoo"? Five fish tanks, three cats, 5 dogs, and a parrot? Will that do it? |

500-800 gph should do it. Considering that you are planning on adding elodea, I wouldn _________________ Years of fish keeping = Good advice |

I chickened out on the live plants; we've installed fake ones instead.
The tank is set up, running, and we've started to fishless-cycle. Thanks for all the help! _________________ What actually constitutes a "home zoo"? Five fish tanks, three cats, 5 dogs, and a parrot? Will that do it? |

Yeah, in the end the plastic will probably be simpler to maintain and all.
It's a pleasure. _________________ Years of fish keeping = Good advice |
