Dad brought home three pieces of beautifully shaped Malle Root. I want to use it in my aquarium and was wondering if this sort of wood is OK? I have been reading about 'making' driftwood and can't find Mallee Root mentioned anywhere as unsafe or safe to use and I don't want to poison my fish.

It should be okay, as long as you let it sit and cure first. Just soak the pieces in a bucket of water until all the tannins (the stuff that turns your water the color of tea) are gone. You can even boil the pieces if you want to make sure there's no bacteria on them or anything. I don't think using Malle rott is really going to create any major problems.

Byez! Very Happy

Thanks. They are from a tree that got hit by lightening and two of the pieces are burnt from it. What should I do about this? Cut it off somehow? Will it be OK?

Burnt wood is just carbon, the same stuff in a lot of filters, so it should be fine.
