By killing machine does that mean it actually goes out and attacks other fish...or is it just hungry and chomps down bite sized meals? I've never kept a butterfly fish but from what I've seen at stores I assumed they were more of ambush predators and not nasty fighters.

Golden wonders are usually peaceful(but as the butterfly fish are certainly not above devouring tankmates small enough to fit in). My pair kept to themselves most of the time...no other fish hung around at the top of the tank. Others have said they will go and molest some other kinds of fish too big for them to eat. They get pretty big too...5 inches isn't unusual.

yah our killies our defenitely little monsters! we had 2 females and one male, and 3 of them chased around the one male until it eventually just hid on the bottom behind rocks for a few weeks. ( he died just the other day, but I don't think it was the butterfly fish, I think it was the other mean little killies!)
the butterfly fish are great though!
Now have any of you seen them fight before? because the other day two of ours put down their side fins and swam around each other and then tried to bite at each other! We're wondering if maybe it's two males or something fighting for the female or territory or something? It's quite strange but interesting to watch!
