Excellent topic! Right up there with the "So you got an Aquarium for Christmas" sticky. We have several aquariums scattered around the office here, I'm in charge of most of them now, but still dealing with the previous guy's selections.
He advised another coworker (and was backed up by the knowlegable people at Petco) to stock her new 10 gal with 1 bala shark, 1 Pictus Cat, 3 different mbuna! Needless to say that didn't last long. I've helped her restock it with 4 guppies (yeah, not the best) and 6 golden neons.
This post should be a mandatory sign in every store that sells fish!

26 Shoving sword type plants ie Amazon Sword and hoping it'll remain the same size throughout the life time of the tank.
27 Listening the the dumb florist saying beta in a plant vase will live off only eating the cut back roots. |

28. add a festae to your ten gallon with twenty neon tetras and wonder why you see less tetras every day and a really big festae getting bigger once again every day

LOL, I broke 3 and 9. But I got two other tanks since I had my 10 Gallon and I'm selling the Pleco before he gets 4 inches.

| Interesting to me at least on the Kissing Gourami, before we knew what we were doing, we put one in our 10 gallon along with a 3 spot. The kissing gourami then proceeded to live for another 7 or eight years in the same size tank. It was one of the toughest that I have ever seen |
