I have a newly setup cichlid tank. I like to feel them ghost shrimp and guppies once in a while just to vary their diet. The problem I am having is when I put the ghost shrimp or guppies in there, within a half hour I have 10 guppies/shrimp slip through the overflow box and get stuck on the intake of the wet/dry syphon hose. Any body ever have a problem like this and how can I fix it?

I was thinking maybe a sponge in the overflow box, but the they will just be stuck to that.

Any help would be appreciated.

some people use nylon hosiery, but it clogs fast, maybe only use it while feeding, or shut the sump off so no water flows through the overflow.

try something bigger like goldfish, or some mesh over the intake
