I have found a really nice tank (4 years of waiting).

My only concern is that the 4 foot light canopy that comes with the tank has 4 T-8 36"bulbs on two light switches.

I went looking at hardware stores to see what is available. I found only one Sylvania bulb that size T-8 36"

There were many more choices for the 48" T-8.

I am thinking of moving the end peices out somehow so I can use 48" bulbs. I am going back to the store to check out the exact measurement of the inside.

Can I keep the same ballist. What do I need to look for.

How can I tell the difference between a quick start and a rapid start ballist

Ellectronic and magnetic ballist. I think magnetic ballist make noise??

I am wondering how much this will cost. If I really break the bank, for $120Cdn more I can get the longer tank with the 48" T-8.

A longer tank will mean an extra filter more heating??

Decissions Confused

You have to open the fixture and look at the wattage the ballast is rated for. Look for 4x 32 T8 or some sort of code.
Many 36 inch ballasts run 48 inch ones as well.
There is no guaretee unless it clearly states it on the ballast.
