HAs anyone ever heard of LEDs being used for lighting? I was thinking about wiring my own up to fit around the rim. That way my lighting won't take up as much room and will seem much more pleasant in my opinion. _________________ Slowing taking over my parents house with aquariums...

LEDs are generally used for moon lighting, but I'm sure you could use them as regular lights, too. If you do decide to make your own take some pictures of it and post them so other people can use them as an example for their own projects.

| I bought a new canopy that has two blue LED's to simulate the moon like Sahara said. THey look quite nice in the evening when all the other lights are off and this way we can see some of our fish's night time behaviour. |

| I've been looking into and researching various lighting and what not. If you have a planted tank you will want to make sure you have white led's that put off the appropriate color ie. with reds and yellows, in the spectrum so that your plants can photosynthesize. If you research the "daylight" flourecents for aquariums they give you the color temperatures on the spec sheet. Mimic those as close as possible with the LED's. |

I have 2 Reef One Biube tanks which have a 4 neon lighting unit 3 white and 1 blue giving me various programs I have it set on 14hrs daylight (3 white neon's) 10 hrs Moon lighting (1 Blue neon) there is a transition period between the 2 setting where the white light slowly fades or brightens.
Must admin it looks very cool |
