I voted for Magnus's shrimp because the picture is so clear and like said before it has two special moments in one shot.

2la- I can't see your whiptail catfish. All there is is a white box with a red X in it. Is it the pleco or the normal (flat nose or long nose?). I really love the look of both but I can't vote for it because I can't see it. lol!

Great shots, everybody!

That's okay--I think the winner of this month's contest is both obvious and inevitable! Wink I don't know why my photo won't display in your browser, but you might check to ensure that your browser isn't set up to block out URLs from Image Shack, which is the server with which the image is hosted.

As for the catfish itself, run a Google image search for 'rineloricaria' and you should see some pretty similar examples.

LOL re: Marcos's comments on Carlos's nails! Laughing

OOOOOOOOOOh, I love those! I wanted one for my 35 gallon but I was informed that they would get to big. Darn it!

This contest is full of awesome entries. I especially love Alex's incredibly detailed picture and 2la's beautiful catfish (amazing focus with such wide aperture. Something I can never achieve, even with a tripod Crying or Very sad .).

For me, the missing tail in 2la's picture doesn't really bother me. In fact, I wonder how the picture would look if the catfish was "shifted" an inch to the left. That might generate a cooler effect since the fish's eye would be directly underneath "the rising sun".

However! In the end, I voted for LMuhlen's BN because the composition just feels right and the picture captures what BN does best: lounging/hugging/eating a log
Laughing . Although I have to say that noname's picture seems scary to me.

A question for you: Do the close-up lenses also increase your depth of focus? Because even for an image at F8, your depth of focus in that image is amazingly deep. Great job on a beautiful photo that I'm sure could qualify for other contests in the future!
Hi 2la,

No, the lenses close-up doesn't increase the focus depth. On the contrary, they stiller limit the focus depth...
I confess that the times I am surprised with some of the macro/close-up photo that I shoot, because the expected is that these were with a small focus depth...

A big hug,

Thanks for the information, Alex!

Okay, folks, get your final votes in soon--I set the poll up just past midnight Central Time last Friday to run for 7 days, but I'm not sure if that means it ends tonight at midnight or tomorrow! Embarassed Rolling Eyes

Voting is closed! And with 26 votes and 42% of the total, Magnus wins our inaugural Monthly Photo Contest with his fantastic shot of revved-up Amano shrimp, with a magic apisto moment in the background to top it all off.

Congratulations, Magnus!!!

Great turnout for the first contest, with lots of high-quality photos! Next contest starts up in about two weeks, so keep your suggestions for themes coming...

Regards,

2la
