Please can you cut this guy some slack, he's only 14, as he stated in an earlier post. I appreciate what your saying Littlemousling, but rather than say things like that, give the guy some advice, and help him out. I'm sure that many people on this board have made mistakes, or been over zealous when stocking tanks when they were younger. Everyone learns from their mistakes. Isn't that what we are supposed to be encouraging on this board? Aren't we supposed to be educating people in the correct way of keeping fish in the aquarium? I think your earlier post was very harsh. All this guy needs to know is to be told what fish he can't keep in his tank, and how he should go about restocking it. True, the haps don't belong in a tank that size, True there are too many fish in the tank, True many of these fish will outgrow the tank, and require larger aquariums. But lets look at what this guy can keep in his tank. We are here to help aren't we? |

Since the "complaint" above is personal but politely worded I'll allow it to stay here in the Site Issues forum, as long as any further discussion in the topic remains civilized... _________________

There are lots of young members on this board that take peoples advice and don't suffer from a severe case of confirmation bias. There is no point in asking a question if you refuse to hear answers that don't verify your opinion |

I agree, @-McP. Age has nothing to do with it. Whether the person is 14 or 40, bullheadness can be a common mindstate. I do not see anything wrong with LittleMouseling's post, especially after reading the topic twice over. TheUndertaker may be a teenager, but that again means nothing in the grand scheme of things. The poster has been told why his tank stock isn't beneficial to the fish, and countered with "that's how the pet store had it and the fish are breeding."

Sorry, but I did answer his questions and he clearly didn't want to hear any answers at all. I did look at what he could in fact keep, and told him (the existing Labs, assuming it's a male and two females). But you're right, I toed the line there - it's just horrible to think of those poor fish all stuffed into that tiny tank, and an owner who has given quite significant proof that the fishes' needs play no part in his decisions. _________________ -Molly

As well to the age question, one of ours mods just turned 15. Age is no excuse. Ignorance, and the want to perpetuate that state, is a poor one. _________________ But if you tame me, then we shall need each other....You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.

I understand how people feel, and I appreciate what your saying. I messed up my first tank by overstocking and bad advice when I was only 12, thankfully I didn't lose any fish. I think the fact that it is Cichlids that are in the tank changes things completely, as we all know about Cichlid aggression. We have given him advice now, so hopefully he will take all the points raised on board. I agree with the age thing not being an issue, to be honest though there are just as many adults who show ignorance towards keeping fish as their are teenagers, and I'd be more bothered about an adult who refuses to take advice.
Anyway I think this issue should be put to bed now. It's down to Undertaker as to what he decides to do with his tank. |

I have taken a lot of the advice posted but it goes against some of what I was told in a specialist store so I don't know what to think.
BTW I will get a larger tank for those fish but It won't be for a while. _________________ Pro wrestling fan!
