NOTE: Sony Imagestation closed in February 2008, so you cannot choose this hosting service anymore. - MA

Preparation steps:
First of all, please read the following Guidelines for posting in this forum, taking particular note of the maximum allowable dimensions for each image.
Choose an image hosting site that allows direct linking from other websites such as this forum - here's an extensive list.
Upload your images to the image host per the specific site's instructions, then follow the steps below to display your images here. For illustration's sake, let's say you chose Sony's ImageStation as your free image host.
Step 1: Click as needed to get the desired image displaying on your image host website. Then right-click anywhere on the image and select Properties in the text box that opens up.
Step 2: A textbox containing information about the image will pop up. Click and hold the left mouse button and drag it to highlight the Address (URL) of the image. (Note that this URL must end with a valid image file extension such as .gif or .jpg. It cannot have multiple file extensions, such as .jpg.orig.jpg!) Then right-click anywhere on the highlighted area and click Copy in the text box that opens up.
Step 3: Now return to the forum here and enter the Photo Album. Click on the New Topic button to start your thread. Type in an appropriate title for your thread any text in the message box that you want to appear in your post. When you're ready to insert your image, click on the Img button just below the Subject box. The BBCode tag [ img ] (without the spaces) will appear in the Message body box, and the Img button will now appear as Img*.
Step 4: Right-click after the [ img ] tag and select Paste. The URL of the image you copied will then appear in the Message body box. Click the Img* button to insert a closing [ img ] tag around the image's URL.
Step 5: Now scroll down and click on the Preview button near the bottom of the page.
Step 6: Verify that your message and image display properly.
Step 7: Scroll down to make any necessary changes in your message, repeating steps 5 and 6 as needed to verify that the message displays correctly. Then click on the Submit button next to the Preview button to post your message for all to see.
That's all there is to it. Happy posting! _________________

2008 Update: Tula was kind enough to dig up and send me the original images above that had gone missing from Picturetrail, so this step-by-step guide is complete again, although a little outdated because Sony Imagestation is no longer in service.
If you still have doubts on how to post images after reading the above, move on to the Tutorial and Test topic for more tips:
