When I took a hiatus from this hobby about 6 years ago there were at least half a dozen small but highly reliable plant sellers online. It seems that by now most of them are defunct. AZ Gardens seems like one of the 'last men standing'. What happened? Where do people buy their plants? I don't want anything too exotic, but I want to make sure the plants are healthy and strong and all of them were raised under water.

Any good suggestions?

I have not had much luck finding plants either, but I do know Mikeswetpets over on AquaBid.com sells healthy inexperience and aquatically grown plants. Other than that I usually just buy them from local fish shops.

If you have quarantine tanks, I would just buy from an LFS and put them in quarantine to make sure they don't have snails, then use them in your other tanks. PetSmart also now sells plants and I've actually had very good luck with their Anubias and Amazon Swords.

Thanks. I might resort to local stores, but I often get disgusted by the number of non-aquatic plants available for sale at Petsmart as suitable for aquariums.

Still if anybody knows more good sources for plants online I'd be grateful for the info.

Hi Mario! I too have been away...however, many of my friends are happy with aquariumplants.com so might want to check them as opposed to chain stores.

Cheers,
Steve

There are several aquarium plant specific forums where you can buy and trade from experienced hobbyists. That's where I get most of my plants.

I had some very bad experiences with AZ Gardens so refuse to purchase from them.

Hey Steve, long time no see. I hope you are doing well.

Thanks for your advice. I'll give aquariumplants.com a shot to set up a tank for my kid. If the plants look good I'll also buy plants from them when I set my 90G back up again. But seeing that we are turning the office into a second kid's room I might not get around to that for a while.

I'm in complete agreement.

Back when Huntress and her husband, and Tommy, and Sherry in NE, and Ken, and I used to play here, it seemed like the forums had too much traffic. Marcos was trying to implement ways of managing the flow so his servers wouldn't crash, and so he wouldn't have to start charging people to post.

Doesn't look like that's an issue now.

This entire web site is still a great wealth of information. The Gallery, the Garden, etc., all of that, plus the archives of forum questions-it's all still here for people willing to look around, but it would be nice if things were just a hair more active.
