To be clear, I don't own this tank yet and I'm not even prepared to stock it until after the holidays, so I'm just doing my homework. I have a new job working directly with fish and the combination of availability and surroundings has me hankering to get back into the hobby.
As a stocking list/planning metric, can anyone see anything wrong with:
Tank Design - "Angels and Cthulu"
Tank Size: 55 Gallon
Fish:
2x Trichogaster Lalius (Dwarf Gourami - Sexed Pair)
10x Paracheirodon axelrodi (Cardinal Tetra)
10x Hemigrammus rhodostomus (Rummy-Nose Tetra)
3x Ancistrus spp. (Bushy-Nose Plecostomus)
Planting:
-Java Moss
-Water Sprite
-Swordgrass
-Red Ludwiga
Tank Params:
Temp 74-85dF
pH: 6.0
Hardness: 5-10dH
Also, I'm getting conflicting reports from various sources - how's aquarium gravel on the Bushy-Noses? Should I use sand instead? With regard to the angels, I'm concerned that Tetras might be too energetic for them, or possibly that an adult angel might consider a tetra a tasty meal. I don't mind live-feeding so much as infighting and the creation of a single-species tank.
Anyway, thanks for the advice. You guys helping me sharpen my stocking skills helps me keep people from letting our customers make their own bad stocking decisions.
Edit: 10/20 Afraid of the angels. Some sort of Gourami, perhaps?

Upon reflection, I think I'm going to do a sexed pair of the Dwarf Gourami (T. Lalius.) That, and some other math, brings me to a stocking that sounds something like this:
2x Trichogaster lalius (Sexed Pair)
10x Paracheirodon Axelrodi
10x Hemigrammus rhodostomus
5x Ancistrus spp.

Stick to one pair or trio of ancistrus as males will squabble.
I would choose Trichogaster labiosa over dwarfs - slightly larger and more colour on the females. |

See, this is what all the book learnin' in the hobby will never replace - instant fish-behaviour recall. I didn't know that Ancistrus were prone to infighting.
With regards to the thick-lipped gourami - I'd considered them, but went with the dwarves over them. The supplier I deal with has trouble keeping their Thick-Lips alive in shipping. The only other fish I'd ever had trouble with are angels and discus, who are genuinely considered to be delicate, but for whatever reason, my boss always has to order twice as many thick-lips as we need.
