|
|
I have a question, I have a 25 gal tank, and I need to know the max amount of fish can put in it. I have two of each of the following fish:
blood fin tetras
neon tetras
ghost catfish
plats
two other kinds of tetras(don't know the name)
And I'm going to get flak from this but 3 small Balas (I know they will need a bigger tank)
and two 4.5" Rafael catfish
I think I'm at my max(or over it) but I will let the experts tell me the truth here
thanks |

| OK I found my local petco will take my smaller fish so I can get more larger fish that are compatible with my bala sharks. They will put them up for adoption so I don't have to flush them(such a waste) I think. So know I have three Bala's, two Rafaels, and two ghost catfish. Seven fish in a 25 gal tank, I think that is OK for now. I am going to replace ALL of my plastic plants with real ones, the advantages are obvious, so Its off to the fish store. |

The smaller fish should stay and take back the larger ones unless you have a 125g plus 6ft plus on order. They need a bigger tank now, not will need one.
The shoal dynamic is wrong. Shoaling fish should be in groups and ghost catfish are not compatible with Bala sharks or any fast moving larger fish. |

I have no problems between the bala's and the ghost catfish. They swim and eat together since the day I introduced the bala's to the tank, and it has been at least two weeks since. The Bala's couldn't care less about the catfish. We put in some Tiger Barbs last night along with some live plants and the eco system is just fine. |

When the Balas get to over twice the size of the ghost catfish which should be within 2 months they will disturb the more delicate fish (Which should also be in a shoal).
Tiger barbs are pretty much the maximum size shoaling fish for a 25 gallon tank but with a minimum shoal size of about eight to disperse squabbling the your tank is too small for these fish unless they are the only fish in the tank.
You have to look at fish at their adult size, not the size in store. These Balas are not yet full grown.
