Hello Everyone

I am looking to replace my current filter on my 30 gallon tank. Also In the next 6 mos to a year I am looking to move to either a 55 or 70 gallon tank. I have been looking at the Eheim 2215 and would like to know peoples thoughts on it. Tank is freshwater. Current stocking is 4 shrimp, 10 cories and 1 algae eater.

I'm not a fan of this particular Eheim. Tetratec, Rena & Fluval are worth considering.

I have an Eheim 2215 on my 26g flat back hex and I do like it. It was formerly on a lightly stocked 55g tank.

The Rena Filstar canisters (if you're going to upgrade to a 55-75g tank, you'll need at least an XP3) are more user friendly, though.

What are your plans for the larger tank? I'm running an XP3 on a moderately stocked 75g mbuna tank, but I'm also running 3 Duetto100 in tank filters along with it. The XP3 alone wouldn't keep up with the messy mbuna.

On the other hand, I used the XP3 alone on a 55g mbuna tank and it did okay. I used the Eheim 2215 alone on a planted community tank (stocked with a lot of corydoras and a large-ish school of harlequin rasboras) and it did a great job.

Basically, figure out what your eventual plan is for the larger tank. A canister that is going to be okay for a 70g tank might be too powerful for a 30g, so you may end up needing to buy a second filter (which isn't a bad idea anyway) when you get your big tank. Or, like most of us, you might end up keeping the 30g running, too, and buying a new filter altogether.
