As of now I have a 27 gallon aquarium stocked with community fish in my bed room. My room is not that big, but last time I set up an additional 10 gallon tank, I got a wet, mildewey small in my room. After I took it out, the smell went away. Is their a way to get around this problem? Please help 3 pregnant sword tails that need relocating, Thanks

change your filters. Old carbon won't filter a well which allows the water to get rank

Do you have lids on your tanks? Usually healthy tanks shouldn't smell much at all...

Weekly water changes, which is 25% a week. Also you can add carbon like the others said.

It probably was that new 10 gallon. Every new tank I have set up, even when I used established filter and gravel, has had a gross smell for awhile before everything gets balanced. As Unissuh said, an established tank should not smell unless is it way overstocked and never cleaned.
