Hi,

This is a new 120 litre tank I've setup at home housing livebearers and zebra danios. The tank is 7 weeks into its life.

I've used filter media from an old tank of mine to accelerate the cycling process. I also used the substrate from an existing tank. The tank has shaped up well now.

Here is my stocking information:

2 Black Mollies (both Female)
2 White Mollies (One male and One female)
2 Orange Mollies (both Female)
8 Zebra Danios

Here are a few snaps of the tank and its inhabitants:

The danios just won't let me take snaps. Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil Looking forward to your comments. Surprised

Prakash

Not to my taste.
Why have pink with pink fish?

Are the danios glofish or dyed?

BTW one of the orange mollies is male.

They are glo fish... I found only those in the LFS. Goodness me! Do they dye the fish as well? How does the color stick to the scales?

The orange mollies are all female. May be the photo might have shown them to be male. I just read about the use of higher ISO exposure to improve photo quality. You can expect that in the next batch of snaps in a couple of weeks.

By the way my plans was to get the regular zebra danios (blue and brass colored). In India they treat them as feeder fish apparently and they come only occasionally. But I could not resist buying these danios. Just love their agility.

Ah GloFish - wish we were allowed to import them here 'cause I'd definitely buy some!

Agreed as far as the pink background though - perhaps change it so the pink fish show up better?

Background is changed to aqua blue with a few images of aquatic plants. Not my favorite background especially with the kind of substrate I use. You will see it in my next batch of snaps.

Actually there was no background in the tank earlier. Very Happy That was the window curtain behind the tank that you saw in the snaps. I'm still waiting for a plain aqua blue/pitch black background which highlight the fish well.

Now a new set of photos. This includes the fry from the white molly female who was pregnant in the last set of photos. I'm still figuring out who the father could be. Surprised . Definitely not the white male. She must be carrying the sperms from the father back in the LFS.

I have created plenty of hiding spots for the fry with crypt plants and pots ( I ensured they were food grade pots before putting them into the tank). Pots promote a little algae growth which is good for the livebearers. I feed the fish only once a day so that they eat a little algae.

I also have some new inhabitants: 3 Fancy Male Guppies. I rescued them from an LFS storing a 100 of them in a 20 X 10 tank. Shocked

The Guppies:

Indiaqualover, some of your new male guppies look like the fry I'm rearing. They're 5 months old, they came from a grasstail mother and unknown father. Beautiful fish.

Hi Keithkyli,

Nice to hear. The are very hardy fish and keep my tank very active. What is the feeding schedule you have for the fry?

I have done some significant upgrades to the tank. I have replaced my plastic bush center piece with an Amazon Sword. The tank has now been planted extensively with Crypts, Rotolas, Amazon Sword and an unknown plant which I need help identifying.

The most significant step I have taken is a CO2 setup I have done using aquahobby's approach which is working very well.

New Additions to the tank:
5 Platy Fish (4 females and a male)
2 Sword Tails (both females)
1 Sailfin Molly (Male)

A look at the tank:

The Unidentified Plant:

To match up to the bio load, I've started doing water changes every 3 days. 25% in one change and 50% in the other.

The CO2 system is doing great with tiny bubbles popping up. I plan to put the outlet stone into a sponge under a bunch of stones to give more time for the CO2 to mix with water.

The plants are growing awesome. I've increased the lighting to about 16 Watts now from 5 Watts. My plan is to have a little un pruned forest inside the tank.

Let me know your comments.

Prakash

Nothing special, I just give them ordinary flake food 2 meals a day.

I have to keep them in an unaerated plastic box because I don't have any other tanks, and my angels would devour them in the main tank. I have put some hornwort there for oxygen. I guess they can be put into the main tank at about 10-12 months old.

At first I had the idea of rearing them for a few months, then selling them or giving them out. Then I thought they were too beautiful to be sold and my friends couldn't take them. Sadly about half of them died in these 5 months, now I got more males than females. I know I'm not giving them the best conditions but, well, they are hardy.
