Did not expect this one!
I lost my largest female 3 days ago and was worried about something being off in the tank. Parameters seemed fine though, sitting at a balmy pH of 6.0-6.2, hardness 0.
Note pretty large white eggs. Mum is the one with the bulgy mouth, dad is the one that is color shifting. Seems to be too many eggs for her, she keeps dropping a few out of her gills then picking them up again.
Off to go ramp up my microworm and grindal worm cultures again... _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

Ahh bugger, swallowed eggs sometime between yesterday and today. Guess it's back to step 1. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

Thats no good! First time parents? How long have you had them?
I really like the tank btw, looks very natural Oh, and what sort of leaves are they? Considering adding some to my smaller tank... |

Hmm, first time breeding that I've seen. I've had them 3-4 months I think, not long at all. Hopefully they'll spawn again and make it through the whole gestation period this time!
The leaves are IALs, got them from www.bettawan.com. Legal import, but customs sometimes mistakes them for other things. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

Here we go, third time was the charm.
Think I managed to save 10-15 of 'em, sitting in a breeder net for now as I don't have any more space elsewhere... _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

| Ye-yeah! Congrats, Uni. I don't care who you are, baby fish are cute. That one looks pretty big already, and with some nice coloration. I guess development is fast in those guys! Although I'm having a hard time finding its mouth. |

Believe me I've spent heaps of time staring and I still can't make out much detail. Blackwater and the breeder net makes it next to impossible to take any decent pictures or see much.
It's reported the fry are 6-7 mm when first "spat", and they looked about there to me. At a guess they're pretty close to 1 cm now (day +4). It's nice to have fry this big for a change, all the other fry I'm getting are 2-3 mm when hatched and are a real pain to feed at the start. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |

Video of a spawn if anyones interested:

They spawn just past 6 min and pick up the eggs around 10 min. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |
