I've noticed a white tumor like growth near the mouth of one of my Neon Tetras. I think I may see the beginning of another one on a different Neon Tetra. I don't think it's mouth fungus, since it's not stringy or going around the mouth, but I'm no expert.
Here's a (somewhat blurry) pic. I'll see if I can get a better one up later.
Thanks for the help |

I googled tropical fish disease and it seams to be mouth fungus.
I am not 100% sure since I havent had to deal with really any problems
like this with my fish. _________________ If I say something stupid or wrong lol correct me lol I am still learning. |

| If you're not sure what your fish has, I'd personally suggest doing extra water changes. Clean water is a great way to help fish fight off infection. |

You might also consider Melafix, which will help fight bacterial infections and the like. Before you try meds, see if there's other stuff you can do instead, more natural stuff I guess. Also, some fish don't have much fun with Melafix, such as bettas and gouramis

| Thanks for the replies guys. I started Melafix 3 days ago, and see how it will turn out. |

I may have a similar problem
10gal FW, 4 month old tank, HOB filter
sandy botton
pH 7
nitrite, nitrate minimal
temp 75
chlorine, chloramine 0
25% water change every week
10 neons, 4 RCS, 2 amano shrimp
2 weeks ago I noticed a growth on 1 neon. Figured just an anomoly. Today noticed a smaller growth on a 2nd neon.
here's a pic I found on the net that it looks like
http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r367/miketheveeg/sickfish.jpg
the pic looks like it has a few white dots, not my fish.. my prob is the white growth on the mouth
fish behaves fine, schools, eats well, no change in behavior yet. color is fine
no fish deaths yet. looked around and could not find a great answer as to what this could be.
hoping it is not the beginning of a major outbreak
planning a 50% water change tonight soon as the water warms to tank temp and a 25% change 3 days after that as read in places a water change is 1st thing to do. |
