I have a question for my senseis.

How do you make sure that you've gotten all the debris from the bottom of a tank? When I poke about the bottom of the tank to drain water for my weekly change, I find that my small plants get disturbed or uprooted. I don't want to lose any more, because my newly found babies are hiding in some of them.

Your help would be muchly appreciated.

Well, in my tanks I try and do my plants in clumps, with open substrate around them. I just stir the siphon tube near the plants, and then siphon out whatever moves with the water, and then clean up all the open ground. I figure that the mulm directly next to the plants is good for them, and that a little bit won't hurt the fish.

I don't tend to vacuum planted areas at all, just anything that is open.

Same with me, I just vacuum the open areas in the front of the tank that start to look dirty.
