I assume that this is possibly be the cause considering that bleach is a base. What kind of test kits are you using and what is the pH of your tap water? _________________ In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. - Martin |

This is very unusual. Bleach is quite basic, and should have a high pH.
I assume the low pH is in your aquarium, and not of the bleach dip? If so, I would suspect that the low pH is caused by something other than residual bleach.
In any case, before you introduce your artificial plants back into your aquarium, you should always dechlorinate to ensure that any residual bleach is neutralized. _________________ Anthony |

Do you mean that it is an acid? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but bases increase pH. _________________ Please, oh Please can someone help me!?

I use a Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Deluxe pH teast kit and an Aqua-Tech 30-60 filter cartridge.
The reading is 6.0 after a water change, inserting plastic plants and, after testing, adding the recommended drops of "pH Up."
The tap water reads 7.4.
Yesterday, I filled a 2 gal bucket with fresh water which read 7.4. Then inserted some plastic plants cleaned in bleach. The water in the bucket today still reads 7.4.
Thanks for comments! Later today I will change another 15 gals in my 55 gal tank.
What is a "base." |

THUMBS up...
Also if you want to avoid the WHOLE bleach product, you can use H2o2. Let them soak a couple of hours, scrub them off and rinse. |

| It had to be the bleach which is very acidic! I must have done a poor job of soaking & rinsing after one of my plastic plant cleanings. |

Can't be the bleach. Bleach is basic or alkaline, it shouldn't be acidic at all. If you were putting bleach back into your tank after dipping your plants, you'd probably end up with dead fish, shrimp etc in the tank...need to rinse it well and preferably treat the dipped object with dechlorinator for a while. _________________ Fishing in the Rivers of Light |
