I have a Koi pond that I built 3yrs ago, 14ft dia. 3ft deep in middle. I didn't lose any fish the first and second winter. But the third winter, I lost 8 koi, leaving 3 swimming inthe spring. They spawned and we now have about 75 fish (1"-2"). It is December and we don't want to lose the fry. We fed them Cichlid sticks and pond pellets for the last 2 months. The sticks get soft faster for the small fish. What can we do to ensure these small fish make it thru the winter, short of heating the pond, which is to expensive. Waterfall pump in still running but I'll have to stop it soon because temp is dropping.
I'd appreciate any advice to help keep 7month old new fish living thru winter.

Yes there is heaters for your pond but they mostly to keep the water open so that the gasses can escape. You can leave them in the pond if your pond is deep to be below the frost zone for your area.
