I got a phosguard which has seemed to have haulted a lot of the growth, but the crap is still all over. My Mexican Turbo has done nothing to it, neither have my Astreas. If the emerald crab is doing anything, it isn't noticeable either. I am doing weekly 5g water changes on a 29g Cube. Lighting is a Viper fixture but I have forgotten the wattage (It's powerful enough to grow SPS though). I've cut back lighting to ~7-11 hours a day.
I wish I could just get a tiny Yellow Tang to take it out, but he would get way too big way too fast. Sea hares seem like an expensive waste because most die quickly. Any other unknown super-algae-eater that has been kept a mystery to everyone?
Regardless I'll try to scrub the crap out of my rocks tomorrow before I water change. _________________ Trying to spawn Barbs and Clowns

There are two get rid of hair algae:
1.Use a toothbrush to grab the algae and twist, then just pull and take it out.
2.Siamese flying fox one of the only fish that eat hair algae, and although they can eat some types of plants they will not destroy them.
3.Molly's are also a type of fish that eat hair algae.
Those are the the ways I get rid of the algae.
And also hair algae only happens in a healthy tank so be happy about it.
This is a good source about SEA (Siamese algae eater)

The best at getting into those nooks and cranies is a Lettuce nudibranch. They are also pretty cheap too. _________________ 150 Gallon (567.811768 liters) community tank, 50 Gallon African Tank, 7 reef tanks, 6 FOLR, 28 freshwater tanks |

Yosef this is Saltwater Hair Algae, not FW.
And I thought that a Sea Hare was the same thing as a Lettuce Nudibranch. _________________ Trying to spawn Barbs and Clowns

Nope. Lettuce Nudis are completely different.
These are Lettuce Nudibranchs:
They're a about an inch long when fully grown.
Sea Hare:
There are many different species; some can grow more than a foot long.
I agree that lettuce nudis are marvelous for taking care of algae; I had some come in on hitchhikers once and was quite astonished at the resulting population explosion. _________________ Am I obsessed? Wait a minute... don't answer that! |

Hello everyone,
Just so we're all on the same page; the so-called "Lettuce Nudibranchs" (usually Elysia crispata or Elysia clarki) offered in the trade are not nudibranchs at all, they are herbivorous sacoglossans.
Sea Hares (Anaspidea), sacoglossans (Sacoglossa) and nudibranchs (Nudibranchia), are all very different types (Orders) of Sea Slugs.
Bill Rudman has reported that some nudibranchs have the ability to store algae, but nudibranchs are all carnivorous feeders and terrible candidates for captivity because their feeding habits are so specific.
In contrast, the herbivorous sacoglossans have the ability to both store and feed on the algae in your aquarium. All sacoglossans are true herbivores, and feed by sucking the cell sap out of the algae they feed on. Hope this helps. _________________ Keepin' marines happy for 25 years |
