It's black aquarium coarse sand and one bag of flourite mixed. The red stuff is the flourite. It worked out pretty good.
Yeah, I know the pleco is gonna be huge. The pet store I go to buys fish back, so I'll sell him back once he outgrows my tank and get something else. The problem was that it was either a common pleco at $4 or something rarer at $50+. I didn't feel like spending that much on a pleco. _________________ Nova's Razor: The stupidest explanation is probably the correct one. |

Okay, the 5 gallon is decorated. Should be ready for a betta in a couple days.

So, all my little guys are doing well. The pleco especially seems to be very active and healthy. The Angels continue to rule the tank with an iron fist, though.
I picked up my first ever betta! I got a Towuti snail as well, which is a neat little snail.
So that should be it for stocking. I may add one other bottom feeder to the 55, but for now I'm done. A few more plants and then it's just maintenance. _________________ Nova's Razor: The stupidest explanation is probably the correct one. |

So, uh. My betta disappeared. Simply gone. I have no idea what happened to him. I was looking for any sign that he'd jumped out but couldn't find anything. I think I spent 45 minutes scouring the area around the aquarium, moving furniture, checking everywhere. Nothing. Crazy. _________________ Nova's Razor: The stupidest explanation is probably the correct one. |

Did you check in the filter thing?
Sad...I have lost a fish and after tearing up the tank for 30mins I found a skeleton _________________

Do you have a dog or a cat? They may have snacked on him.
Betas are jumpers. I keep saran wrap over my beta tank so that she doesn't end up on the floor. I've read that if there is a hole big enough for them to go through, they'll go through it. To avoid it, I suppose you could get some kind of cover for the tank or lower the water level as low as you can so he can't get out of he does jump. |

Unfortunately this tank doesn't really allow for either of those solutions. :/ Perhaps I should replace the betta with something else that can live in a 5 gallon without a heater and isn't a jumper.
PS. The only other pet I have is a corn snake, so I don't think anything ate the betta. _________________ Nova's Razor: The stupidest explanation is probably the correct one. |

KILLER SNAIL!
Have it as a shrimp tank, get some b/c grade crystal red shrimp if your pH is low 7.2 or lower _________________
