Should I be worried about my pond being 2ft away from my house?

One more question, how does one go about doing a water change with a pond?

Could I use water from the river next to our house?

You could probably use the river water. test it first. just to be sure. I just use a bucket and Toss it into the yard or carry it to the road or something.

doing a 35% water change is around 525g...It'd be hard to do that.

Ya sounds like an all day process... You could maybe build or buy some kind of pump that leads to somewhere convenient. How far is the river and road from the pond? Roughly of course.

Don't use river water - you don't know what will come with it.

Ponds work slightly differently to tanks and water changes are done less.

Pond will be around 500 yards away, I was thinking river water because we have irrigation water that comes to our house. If water changes are done less, how much is "less"? 10% every month?

water pumps are not very much money. (think somethin you'd un-flood a basement with!) get some hose.. and you're set for drainage. regarding adding water.. as a newb.. I'd totally have one of those "rain barrels" available with the spigots/hose attachments on them.. fill it with hose water and whatever addititves are necessary a couple days prior, let it get to "outside temperature" so its similar to the pond.. and then drain it into the pond...
